St. Louis citizens enjoy many features of their community that help provide a high quality of life. The St. Louis Public Schools have never failed to pass a bond issue and their facilities are some of the very best in Mid- Michigan, while quality health care is available nearby and there is a successful business community that provides for all citizens day to day needs. There are many housing options available for various age groups and the area is home to many active service related and other non-profit organizations.

Schools

St. Louis Public Schools, through the direction of a strategic plan, offer traditional values taught in state-of-the-art facilities using modern teaching methods. The newly constructed high school along with the renovated middle and elementary buildings have all had a positive impact in keeping the school system one of the few in the state that meet the rigid standards for North Central Accreditation K-12. Advanced placement classes offer students the opportunity to receive college credit while still in high school. Long distance learning in the Interactive Television classroom allows students, teachers, and community people to take classes and interact with others throughout the United States. In addition to all of the technology and classes at the local district, a modern Career-Technical Center is available to those students that are interested in an advanced technical education before leaving high school. Students taking classes at the Area Center also have the opportunity to receive college credit before graduating from high school.

An excellent staff, modern teaching strategies, small class size, new facilities and state-of-the-art technology, all result in an outstanding educational opportunity at St. Louis Public Schools. The St. Louis District also serves as the center for the Gratiot-Isabella Regional Education Service District Hearing Impaired Program.

St. Louis' medical needs are professionally cared for at the St. Louis Family Clinic, 224 North Mill Street. Dr. William Thiemkey and Dr. Gerrit VanderLugt staff the modern clinic. A First Responders Team and a state-of-the-art advanced Life Support ambulance system provide around-the-clock emergency care. St. Louis is home to two of the finest health centers in the area. Schnepp Health Care Center ((989) 681-5721) has been family owned and operated since 1978, and offers a clean and modern facility with an outstanding staff. Pine River Healthcare Center ((989) 681-2124) has a specialized Alzheimer's unit along with 24-hour skilled nursing care.
