City Council Nominating Petitions

 

The City of St. Louis will have the Mayor and two Council positions up for election on the City Council for the November 7, 2017 election.

Any qualified elector of the City of St. Louis is eligible to run for Mayor or City Council. Nominating petitions are available from the City Clerk at City Hall. Anyone desiring to run for the City Council must file a nominating petition with the City Clerk signed by no less than 25 nor more than 50 registered electors of the City. Petitions must be filed by 4:00 p.m. on April 25, 2017.
 

In the event that 3 or more candidates file petitions for Mayor and 5 or more candidates file petitions for Council person, a primary election will be held on August 8, 2017 to elect the candidates who will appear on the November 7th ballot.

Mari Anne Ryder, City Clerk, is appointed by the City Council and reports to the City Manager.
 
Mari Anne's duties include serving as Clerk for the City Council, assisting the City Manager and other City Department Heads, attending all meetings of the City Council, keeping a permanent journal of its proceedings and keeping a record of all ordinances, resolution and regulations of the City Council.  
 
Mari Anne also administers all Elections and performs numerous other duties as required by State and local laws.

Election Information

 
The next Election is the City General Election November 7, 2017.  Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. any person in line at 8:00 p.m. will be allowed to vote.  The doors will be open until the Precinct is balanced.
 

Voter Information

 
The City of St. Louis consists of one Precinct.  The Voting Poll is located at the St. Louis City Hall Community Center 300 North Mill Street.  The Poll is open 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 
 
The last day to register for the November 7, 2017 General Election is Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
 
Voters must be registered to vote in the State of Michigan no later than 30 days prior to an Election.

Absent Voter Information

 

If you would like to be placed on the permanent absent voter list, please contact the City Clerk. Absent Ballots are not sent automatically; however, members on the permanent absent voter list will be sent an application for a ballot that must be returned prior to each election you wish to participate in.

For those not on the permanent list, Absent Ballot Applications are usually made available 6 weeks prior to an election.
 
On Saturday, November 4, 2017 the City Clerk's Office will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept absent ballot applications for voters applying or returning ballots that day.
 
On Monday, November 6, 2017 voters may vote a ballot in the City Clerk's Office if they are unable to make it physically to the polls on Tuesday's Election Day.
